Easter fun and our choice of the best spring Devon events

The flowers are blooming and the bees are buzzing, there’s no doubt about it, spring has finally arrived. As the warm weather arrives, Devon events really come into their own. From colourful tulip festivals to theatrical fun, it’s a celebration of the wonderful natural splendour in our county - not to mention all the Easter fun to be had. Here’s some of our top picks.

The World of Peter Rabbit Storytime Trail at Torre Abbey

Tuesdays to Sundays until 18th May 2025 in Torquay

One of the most famous bunnies of all, the Peter Rabbit interactive experience is a delight for all the family. Celebrating 120 years of mischief, the storytime trail lets your little ones immerse themselves in Peter’s world. Crawl under the garden gate, hide in the watering can and see your reflection in the mirror pool, just like in the well-loved tales.

The Little Red Hen at the Theatre Royal

25th March - 19th April 2025 in Plymouth

The renowned Stuff and Nonsense Theatre Company are bringing their energetic adaptation of The Little Red Hen to Plymouth’s Theatre Royal this spring. With a talent for captivating storytelling, ingenious stagings and comedic timing, Stuff and Nonsense are not to be missed. A wonderful combination of puppetry, live music and laugh-out-loud moments bring this tale of a plucky hen to life.

Tulip Fest at Lifton Farm

5th - 21st April 2025 in Lifton

A slice of the Netherlands in Devon. Back in November, the team at Lifton Farm planted over 250,000 tulip bulbs at Strawberry Fields. As the spring sun hits, one of the most eye-catching Devon events is about to begin. Over 40 varieties of tulip will bring a riot of colour over a whole three acres. Tulips as far as the eye can see! Wandering musicians provide a live soundtrack, there’s also a craft area to get creative and the barrel train will be giving rides.

Spring Loco Trail at Pecorama

8th - 19th April 2025 in Beer

Any children with a passion for steam trains will want to head straight to Pecorama this springtime. Their new interactive steam train trail is a fun-filled adventure of exciting challenges and games. You’ll learn fascinating steam train facts and experience the magic of railways. Enjoy the resident steam trains, the model railway exhibition and the beautiful gardens.

Easter Fun at Hartland Abbey

20th April 2025 in Bideford

There are a variety of Devon events with Easter egg hunts and one of our favourites is at Hartland Abbey. The grounds and gardens of Hartland Abbey turn into a springtime wonderland with wild bluebells, daffodils and primroses showing their colours next to the camelias, tulips and early azaleas. Families will have a wonderful time wandering the woodland pathways in search of clues to the hidden treasure trove of easter eggs.

Brixham Pirate Festival

3rd - 5th May in Brixham

Who could resist one of the largest gatherings of modern-day pirates? One of the quirkiest Devon events lands in the seaside town of Brixham. If your children love pirates or dressing up, this free festival is everything they’ll want. With sea shanty singing, live history reenactments and pirate parades, you’re guaranteed a barrel of laughs.

Lambing Sunday at Martinsfield Farm

4th May 2025 in Broadclyst

Is there a surer sign of spring than baby lambs frolicking in the green fields? Head to Martinsfield Farm for a day seeing, holding and feeding the local lambs. You can also meet the resident alpacas and some little piglets too. There’s a family dog show, a children’s quiz trail and a range of food stalls. Devon events don’t come more wholesome than this.

International Festival of Wormcharming at Blackawton

5th May 2025 in Blackawton

If you’re looking to explore the more eccentric side of Devon, the International Festival of Wormcharming in the village of Blackawton will definitely fit the bill. Come along as a spectator or enter your own team to see how many worms you can charm out of your square metre of ground. There’s also a fancy dress costume, live music, beer festival and dog show - all you need for a Devon day out.

Devon County Show at Westpoint, Exeter

15th - 17th May 2025 in Exeter

And to round up our Devon events, the popular agricultural show is full of family-friendly fun. Animal-loving youngsters will enjoy the horse and canine superstars in attendance. There’s a packed programme at the showground and a funfair to enjoy. The Show Trail is a great way to explore the event on a fun and educational adventure. There’s something for everyone.
